Interior Design Challenge For a Calgary Commercial Services Provider

The Challenge:

After successfully growing an orthodontic practice for ten years in the original location it was time to expand and scale the practice. An existing building in a prime, visible location was purchased and plans began to transform it into a first-class facility. A review of clinic procedures was required to ensure improvements could be implemented in the new location. The desire to improve the patient and waiting experience and an opportunity to rebrand were driving forces. With an increased space the addition of staff, equipment and storage would be critical. It was critical that when the project was complete that the building would not be recognizable as a restaurant.

The Design Solution:

The Solution:

The time frame was condensed so we needed to get started right away. Serious time was spent analyzing the needs and requirements of the current space and what was working and not working and what improvements would be required to bring about efficiencies and productivity. The location was very prominent in the community and the buzz started quickly. The layout comprised of eight semi-private ops, five consultation rooms, large lab and milling room, staff room and amenities for twenty employees and a generous waiting area and hospitality wall with coffee, ice cream, beverages and digital check-in to create a great user experience. A coffee shop feel was the inspiration for the waiting room. Various seating options exist and a custom wall mural, 16’ X 17’, highlights the features of the city and pays homage to the many life events that “make you smile”.

A neutral pallet of finishes was chosen for ease of maintenance and to allow the pops of color and natural greenery to take center stage. The hospitality wall is accented with a full height brick wall. Natural birch wood accents can be found throughout the interior. Custom millwork in most areas contributes to the efficiencies of the practice and on a busy clinic day nearly one hundred patients find their way through the facility. Design details have been chosen to make it operate as an efficient machine.
