A Large Transition Across the Country
A Large Transition Across the Country
The Challenge:
A retired couple relocating from Ontario to Calgary sought to downsize their living situation while being closer to their children. The challenge was to integrate their cherished items and furnishings into their new residence in a senior living facility, blending these familiar pieces with a more modern aesthetic.

The Design Solution:
Decca Design approached this task with sensitivity and creativity. The couple’s favorite living room chairs were given new life through reupholstery, harmonizing them with the new setting. A contemporary area rug was introduced, adding warmth and texture to the living area. In the dining room, a new suite, buffet, and a low entertainment unit were selected for the great room, complementing the couple’s style. The bedroom was refreshed with new headboard upholstery and bedding, with a bold red accent introduced to invigorate the space. The couple’s impressive art collection, accumulated over many years, was thoughtfully placed throughout the residence, turning the walls into a gallery of memories. A special feature wall was created to honor their years of service and passion for fine needlepoint, also incorporating space for books and references. This careful curation and blending of old and new elements swiftly established a sense of home, reflecting the couple’s journey and new chapter in Calgary.
