Why is everyone talking about LVP flooring?

There was a time when if someone was telling you about vinyl, you immediately thought of that ugly, dated flooring in your grandmother’s kitchen. Today’s LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank and Tile) is lightyears ahead of its predecessor. Not only is it available in a variety of different widths, thicknesses and locking mechanisms, but the digital imaging makes the product so realistic looking that even experts have a hard time telling it apart from real wood once it is installed. Not only does it look the same, but vinyl products can also be embossed in register which give the vinyl a textured finish just like you would find on an authentic wood floor. It truly is a hybrid category.

One of the reasons LVP is so popular is because it hits the sweet spot of value, price and design. Most vinyl products are also 100% waterproof. Unlike with hardwood or laminate, homeowners with busy households or pets can rest easy knowing that if an accident happens there won’t be issues with their flooring. Vinyl is also warm and comfortable underfoot making it a great choice when installing in cooler basements. The product also offers greater dimensional stability than laminate and hardwood. This means the flooring won’t contract with temperature and climate changes and can be installed (in some cases up to 10,000sf!) without the use of a transition piece. This stability is why all of Fuzion’s vinyl products are guaranteed for use in unheated cottages.

Following the Trend

Installation

Depending on the type of vinyl you select, it can be glued down, loose laid or clicked into place. In most cases, it can also be installed on top of existing hard surfaces. This can save thousands of dollars in rip out of existing floor covering.

Fuzion Flooring carries vinyl from 5” to 9” wide. We’re seeing a lot of demand for longer planks which is why we offer planks up to 72” long. The combination of wide and long boards can really open a room and make it a space appear bigger than it really is. Lighter tones are also very popular now and can really help bring out the colors and tones in your room.
Vinyl floor covering comes in different wear layers, typically between 8 to 20mils. The higher the number, the more durable, stain and scratch resistance will be. For a residential application a 12 mil wear layer is more than adequate. For heavy commercial applications you would typically want flooring with a 20mil wear layer.
