Meatballs with Sweet Sauce
Ingredients for the meatballs:
-
- 1 pound ground beef (or a mixture of beef and pork)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
- Cooking spray or oil for pan-frying
Ingredients for the sweet sauce:
-
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions for the meatballs:
- In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let them soak for a few minutes until the breadcrumbs absorb the milk.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the soaked breadcrumbs, ground beef (or beef and pork mixture), grated Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, dried basil, and dried parsley (if using).
- Mix the ingredients until everything is well combined, but avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. You should get approximately 20-24 meatballs from this mixture.
- Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
- Place the meatballs in the hot skillet and brown them on all sides until they are cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your skillet.
Instructions for the sweet sauce:
- In a separate saucepan, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until it thickens and becomes glossy.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness or seasoning as needed. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, you can add more brown sugar.
- Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to a serving dish, and pour the sweet sauce over them.
- Serve the Meatballs with Sweet Sauce as an appetizer or as a main dish with rice or pasta.
- This recipe combines tender meatballs with a flavorful sweet sauce for a delightful dish. Enjoy!
