I have over 30 years journeyperson experience in the sign & print design and production. Right out of high school I was invited to train in-house with a local sign shop as tradesperson – I had been recognized by this local sign shop due to winning the city chambers art piece selection that was gifted to a visiting delegate from Hong Kong. This was ‘pre-printing’ days for sign production when signs were built from diecut vinyl, air brushed or hand painted. The shop I had entered into sign fabrication learning with had purchased one of the first foil printers; the EDGE printer, when it was available in the market. I learned some print skills here but learned more later when I joined the Sun Media newspaper printing group where they provided print theory training. After a decade in newspaper advertising design and pre-press work and education I returned to sign making were the equipment had changed a great deal to produce full color print products and I was able to apply the print there from newspaper printing to my previous sign skills. In the following return to sign-making years I was the owner-operator of my own small short run sign production shop while also becoming a mother of my two children.
